Depend-be controlled or determined by; rely on
Do you depend on people more than you depend on God?
I really hate to break it to you, but your mom will fail you. Your best friend will fail you. Your boyfriend will fail you. Your dad will fail you. Your family will fail you. Your mentor will fail you. People will fail you. I am so sorry, if that was the first time that you have heard that before. People are not God. I am not saying this to cause you to build walls up against people or harden your heart against people but for you to realize that people are human, and they will make mistakes. Yes, we need people, and we need God. But what I see is, so many people run to other people more than they run to God. I see so many people run to other people for approval, when it was not people who created them. We cannot depend on people the way that we should depend on Jesus. I love the people in my life. Do I expect things out of them? Absolutely, only because I know who they are and what they are capable of. But yes, my friends and my family fail me every day because they are not perfect and neither are the people in your life and neither are YOU. God wants us to have intimacy with people and he wants us to have relationships, but he also wants that intimacy with us. God wants us. God loves us. There has to be a balance. Yes, I encourage you to go to your friends and ask them for advice if you need it, but first go to God. Ask him for his opinion. Ask him what he thinks of your decision. Ask him which direction you should go. We have to know that God is our rock that we can depend on him for anything. He is our anchor and he will forever be our anchor.
Jeremiah 29:11 ESV
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”
Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 ESV
“Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up! Again, if two lie together, they keep warm, but how can one keep warm alone? And though a man might prevail against one who is alone, two will withstand him—a threefold cord is not quickly broken.”
“The LORD is near to all them that call on him, to all that call on him in truth.”
